Summer Prints

Holy Moly!!  Is it August already?  I am still living in the past – back to June – where I took a week long vacation with my boyfriend and his family.  We vacationed at Martha’s Vineyard and it was just the escape I needed!  My days went something like this: Wake up with coffee on the back porch while looking at the beach, go to the beach, come home for dinner, shower, head back to the beach (with wine) to catch the sunset, back home to sleep, repeat.  Martha’s Vineyard is huge about outdoor showering – like, every house has a private outdoor shower.  It was secluded and still had a perfect view of the beach.

Another reason I like the beach so much is it requires no make-up!  Big hat, sunglasses, sunscreen ,and a bathing suit.  You’re all set!  Packing is rather easy – I think I packed one dress for a ‘nice dinner’, two outfits (hint: this is one …) to hit the towns in, three pairs of shoes….aaaand 5 bathing suits and 5 swimsuit cover ups.  Just because I’m on the beach without makeup doesn’t mean I actually want to look like a bum…

This dress from New York and Company was flowy enough that I could wear it the day after eating a big lobster dinner and consuming glasses and glasses of wine.  The Panama hat is a must when you’re out in the sun all day. I couldn’t resist the gladiator sandals either. They were a fun twist for this summer dress and, thankfully, I did not have a tan line at the end of the day. {That would have been awkward}

We went into Oak Bluffs this day which is the more ‘touristy’ spot among the three towns. Any souvenir you want you will find in Oak Bluffs. I purchased a shirt I had my eye on last year. To my surprise, it was half off this summer! My buyer’s remorse paid off for once!!!

Collaboration

I’m so, sooo happy to talk about my collaboration with one of my best friends!  This isn’t the first time that I’ve blogged about Amber – she was also the main event of my very first post from March last year!  She had just accepted the proposal of marriage to her ol’ ball and chain, Danny 😉 Their wedding was March of this year and I wish we could relive that night over and over again!  Amber and I basically did relive her wedding night over because we went through their 4,000 camera roll of pics from their photographer, Martin Digital. Amaaaazing photos, by the way!

Anyway!  Amber just started a blog of her own and I couldn’t be more proud of her!  She is an art teacher in Cincinnati and is so creative! Whenever I have the urge to be crafty, she’s my go to person for advice!  One of her blog posts is about Bucket Lists, which really inspired me to make a bucket list of my own.  I have so many things that I want to do or accomplish in my lifetime – everything is just milling around in my head.  Might as well get it down on paper so I have a constant reminder of my goals.  We had a lot of fun making our lists – and we looked cute doing it 🙂

Having a bucket list reminds me that there are no limits.  A bucket list isn’t someone else telling me what I should do or how to live my life – my list contains my own thoughts (…and maybe a couple from Amber’s list that I copied….).  There are already a number of things that I’ve accomplished I never thought possible – recording a song, moving to another state by myself, and conquering my fear of heights with the slip n fly (http://www.ohiodreams.com/photos/slip-n-fly).  Now that I’ve created a list, I’m looking forward to checking each item off and who knows what else I will add to the list?!

Sunday Best

I hope everyone had an amazing weekend! I was home and celebrating Easter with my family. As a kid, I loved having an Easter egg hunt! Now, I love wearing my Sunday best. The brighter the colors the better! I chose this neon coral midi dress from the Eva Mendes collection at New York and Company. The midi length is something I’m still getting used to. I’m 5’3″ so when the length of the skirt/dress hits my calf, I look a lot shorter than I am! Throwing on a pair of heels adds height to my look. To make this outfit more modern, I threw on a gold turban headband. These headbands are my new favorite thing! I love how they jazz up any outfit.

Stay tuned for more looks that incorporate turbans and bright colors! Here’s to hoping that spring is here to stay!

Have a B R I G H T and M E R R Y Christmas!

Tis’ the Season for sequins!  I can’t get enough.  Between Christmas and New Year’s I want nothing more than to shine bright like a diamond! How perfect is this emerald green sequins dress?  I need something with long sleeves to live in Ohio; However, it’s not a white Christmas this year, just a rainy one.

The red peacoat paired with the green dress is the perfect palette for Christmas.  I wanted to keep the hat and shoes neutral in color but still stand out!  I don’t think you can go wrong with bows and more sequins. With the plunging neckline of the dress, I felt like I was missing something not having a necklace.  When in doubt, you guessed it, add something shiny. The gallery pave link necklace from Ann Taylor was the perfect addition.

How are you spending Christmas?  Hopefully with those that you love the most!  I am back to work the day after Christmas (TGIF) so I’ll try not to get into any spiked egg nog 😉

Merry Christmas to all!

Bye, Buddy! Hope You Find Your Dad

This year I started my Christmas shopping in November!  Between my company’s sample sale, Black Friday, Cyber Monday, in store deals, and the new Green Monday, I had my shopping finished by early December!  I love wrapping gifts – I don’t care how much I spend in paper, ribbons, bows, and gift tags – I need the presentation to be as nice as the gifts!

I love everything about Christmas – the cookies, egg nog, decorating, lights, sequins, and MOVIES!  I don’t have cable, but I do have Netflix and Hulu.  Every night, you can pretty much count on me tucking myself into bed with a holiday movie.  Abercrombie kids released a few shirts from Charlie Brown Christmas, Home Alone, Christmas Vacation, and Elf – the classics!  I was able to squeeze myself into a child’s XL and I do not regret my purchase.  This is my absolute favorite line in the movie!!!

In order to dress up my casual tee, I did the only thing I know how – add sequins!! These sequins joggers are a comfy fit! I like the elastic waistband – perfect for holiday gatherings.  The blazer adds sophistication and the statement necklace adds some more glam.  On my feel I am wearing black booties with a small touch of leopard print – because leopards a neutral – and it ties in the black blazer.

What are your favorite holiday movies to watch??

City Mouse Goes Country

If you know me, I think you’d find it hard to believe that I grew up on a farm.  It’s true.  My dad raised chickens, pheasants, guineas, and goats (I had a goat named Tabitha).  I wasn’t active in 4-H like most of my classmates,  and the most I did on the farm was help collect chicken eggs – and sold them to my teachers.  Once I left for college, I stayed in the city… for good!  They say Home is where the Heart is, and I think that will always be true.  Home is my place of escape.  Home is where I feel loved, relaxed, peace, and content.  Basically put, It’s where my heart is.  My parents moved from our farmhouse while I was in college, but we’re still surrounded by cornfields, farm land, and cow crossing signs.  No matter which house they live in, “Home is where the heart is”.

Chains so Big, I Can’t Pop My Collar

In preparation for my last post – National Shoe Lover Day – my employer sent out an email for a “casting call”, if you will for a video that would be used in social media.  Instructions? A killer pair of shoes and your smile.  I had no idea what to expect, but my goal was simple: get selected for this video!

Every girl knows the camera adds ten pounds, so choosing a black ensemble was a no brainer.  I promised my roommate I would give her closet credit for the black top with ruffle sleeves I paired with my faux leather leggings.  Because leopard print is a neutral, I added my new wedge booties for a print.  Finally, I gave my outfit the Midas touch with my chain bib I purchased over the summer. It’s certainly becoming a fall staple in my wardrobe!

After it was all said and done, I didn’t make the video.  But a couple of my friends did.  It’s a super fun video! Check it out here!

Nautcal Stripes and catamaran Tours

I just took a week vacation with my boyfriend’s family.  We vacationed in Martha’s Vineyard, an island of Massachusetts. I couldn’t wait to dunk myself in the salt water and taste fresh lobster!

I tend to be ambitious when it comes to packing my suitcase.  We’re talking excel spreadsheets – months in advance!  My boyfriend attempted to burst my bubble, requesting that I consciously pack my outfits, because we were driving a full car to the vineyard.  Mr. V. actually challenged me to one outfit per day (Challenge not accepted, by the way)! I had been busy, planning outfits and scouting Pinterest for outfit inspiration ever since I was invited.  Nautical stripes, beach hats, and maxi’s were on the top of my list!  I picked out 3 fedoras and one floppy hat to wear, then I forgot them entirely on the floor of my apartment.  Operation Find A Fedora was in full effect once on the road – scouring gas stations and gift shops for the first and cheapest fedora I could find.

I had a great time on the family vacation and am extremely thankful for the invitation.  Exploring Martha’s Vineyard was beautiful, and relaxing on the beach was so peaceful.  Speaking of exploring, my boyfriend and I scheduled activities for the two of us – planning shopping outings, ice cream trips, and a catamaran tour – sailing on the Mad Max!

The Mad Max is where all three of my top items came into play!  Sailing from 6:15-8:15pm was going to be chilly and windy. The easiest way to stay warm on a cool summer’s night is to throw on a maxi dress.  I paired it with a distressed denim jacket, a red bauble necklace, and my new fedora

We made friends with the couple next to us – who also happen to be from Ohio and have a few friends in common with us.  It’s small world, after all.

Open Mic Night – Round 2

(Dan Mitchell Photography)

We played at an open mic – our second show.  At the first one, we didn’t tell anybody about it except for our close friends who are really into music. We felt pretty confident after that performance so we’re more comfortable inviting all of our friends (soo, you guys should come!!! We play Wednesday’s at various locations).

Our regular fans – the friends/family who came to our last show – were busy and couldn’t attend this time.   I was worried nobody would be there to take pics – obviously, a very crucial point for an aspiring blogger!  L As a surprise, two of my besties, Amber and Lydia, showed up to support us – Amber drove from Cincinnati and surprised me to tears!  I was extremely happy that they were there (and could record some audio for us- except for the unfortunate event that I was sitting directly under the spotlight which completely washed me out).

The bar was a Rock N Roll theme so I wore the only band shirt I own – Red Hot Chili Peppers.  I paired it with my leather leggings and a black blazer.  I added my silver pumps and silver necklace for some color.  The weather was nasty and raining so up in a bun went my hair.

Sparkle and Shine Fashion Divine

I purchased this skirt in December from New York and Company to wear over the Holiday season.  I love the matte sequins and chevron design of this skirt!  I wanted to make it more versatile to wear during other seasons.  Denim is the most versatile trend out there and my denim shirt has easily become the most rotated shirt in my wardrobe.  I wear my denim shirt with colored denim, leggings (print and solid – last seen HERE), shorts (last seen HERE), and now, sequins skirts.   I promise you this is not the only shirt I own…

I digress….. The dark colors together made this look too drab.  I brightened it up with a red blazer and a floral design necklace.  Another year-round trend?  Boots!  These short booties have a buckle on the side and cut-out detail which makes them easier to wear on warmer days.

Hope you all have a great Memorial Day weekend!  I sure am ready for a three day weekend!
