Jackets for Fall

While “Winter” doesn’t officially begin until December 21st… even though the temperature feels like it in Ohio, plus with Christmas decorations and activities in full swing, it’s tough not to skip the last few weeks of “Fall”.

If you follow me on IG, you know that I was once again traveling up to Geneva for a night in Ohio’s “wine country”. We went with another couple and it was their first night away from their one year old! It was already our third time visiting these wineries so we showed them our favorite places. First stop is always Laurentia for lunch + drinks. Not in any particular order, but M Cellars and Harpersfield are next on the list. Anything else along the way is fair game and we did stop at Red Eagle Distillery for the first time! Ordered a pumpkin spice cocktail that was sooo delic. I honestly expected the ‘lake effect’ weather to be so much cooler in Geneva but it was nice and sunny. Would have reconsidered my outfit if I would have known 🙂 But can’t go wrong dressing in all staples!

Start with a neutral sweater and my favorite mom jeans for the base. Add a suede jacket for added warmth and pair a bold snakeskin print bootie. You probably have everything in your closet to recreate this look, any bold bootie will work! These exact pair are from DSW but I purchased a few years ago. I didn’t see these on the website but did link smiliar pairs if you like this print. I’ve mentioned this suede jacket before – I waited until the Nordstrom anniversary sale to purchase. It’s pricey but I wear it so much in the fall. You’ll be so impressed with the quality!!

The next morning, we went into town to grab coffee and pastry before the long drive back to Columbus. The weather was definitely cooler, but as soon as we were in the car, I was shedding layers (TOO WARM). But I can’t say enough good things about this plaid zip up jacket! It is a cropped fit and the inside lining is satin so don’t expect the sherpa material on both sides… however, maybe it was the sweater underneath, but this jacket still kept me plenty warm! I’m wearing a small in the jacket and it’s pretty roomy in the arms so don’t worry about sizing up one. You also can’t beat the price!! It’s only $25 🙂 I forgot to pack a straight leg pair of denim so here I am stuffing my mom jeans inside of my suede knee high boots, hahaha! Made it work!

I can’t believe we’re already in December!! Check out my post on gift guides if you haven’t already! Happy Shopping xoxo

Stumbling upon Larimer Square

At the end of August, we traveled to Denver, CO for one of my best friends wedding. I’ve been to Colorado a few times, but mostly for skiing or to visit my grandparents right outside of Denver. So, long story short, I’ve never spent time in Denver. We stayed at the Westin downtown – walking distance to 16th street mall, Rockies stadium, and Larimer Square. Our room actually overlooked Larimer Square with all of the string lights – it was beautiful!!

We landed in Denver at noon on Friday. I lucked out with direct flights both ways! The train commute from the airport to downtown is about 40 minutes. Then we walked to our hotel and grabbed lunch at Oskar Blues along the way. The welcome party was a rented cabana suite at the Rockies game. Nothing better than beer, stadium food nachos, and friends! Fun fact, I used to work HR for the concessions company at the MN Twins – not a fan of the game, but I do love it as a summer social activity 🙂

With that said, I may have been the most excited to wear these keds baseball shoes! I only get to bust them out if I’m at a game and this was the second time this summer I got to dust these bad boys off! I did size down a half size in the shoe (linked above!). Pet peeve is wearing another teams hat to the game if they’re not actually playing in the game!! Since I didn’t have a Rockies baseball cap, I wore this black Nike dry-fit one. The purple and black flannel was the perfect choice to still show support for the Rockies by wearing their colors! It actually gets chilly in Denver, which I wasn’t expecting so I was happy to have a layering piece once the sun went down. At first I was a little unsure how to tie the flannel around my waist while wearing shorts (can’t see the shorts in the back – am I even wearing pants?!). My tank top is an $8 Target find and comes in a toooon of colors.

Leaving the game, we decided to head back towards our hotel and find a place to grab a night cap. I remembered seeing the string lights from our room so we ventured out on 16th Street Mall and you can’t miss Larimer Square from there! It was so much fun!! There was a champagne bar, wine bar, ice cream shop, a few other bars – some even opened as vendors on the street, a record store… We snagged an ourdoor table at the champagne bar and ordered a glass of bubbly plus oysters – how fancy! Our preference was to sit outside, but actually I wished we would have requested an indoor table because the chandeliers were so glam! But I was definitely feeling underdressed! I made Max return the following night, after the rehearsal dinner so I could at least have one cute outfit pic at the Square 🙂

What a cute area! The 16th Street Mall actually reminded me a lot of Nicolette Mall when I lived in Minneapolis. I was feeling a little nostalgic.. This post wraps up summer travel and summer outfits! I’ll start posting more fall inspo next week. It’s October 1st so I’m thinking we’re even going to a pumpkin patch this weekend – can I get a FALLELUJAH?!

Ohio Wine Tasting Weekend

We just celebrated our three year wedding anniversary last week. We don’t really give each other gifts, we’d rather just have an experience. With a baby and a pandemic, we have to plan ahead! So, we planned a one night stay in Geneva, OH – near Lake Erie and it’s actually a really cool wine region! We’ve been 21 in Ohio for how many years and we’ve never travelled up here? Actually, we first went to Geneva last fall as our first night away from the baby. We had such a great time and felt really safe we decided to plan another night stay for our anniversary. It’s no Napa but each winery is really unique and there’s sooo many, we only went to three last time: Laurentia (best food, wine, & views), M Cellars (great wine and best tasting specials), and Harpersfield (Cute like a German winery – wine is okay but the outdoor space is one of the best).

We did go to the same three again this trip but also added a few more. I stand by my rankings above! We didn’t visit any other wineries that beat these three from a top rank. We stayed at The Lodge At Geneva On The Lake. Fun Fact: Delaware North Companies is the hospitality group that operates the lodge. DNC was the first company I worked for out of college! I moved to MN and worked for their Sportservice division with the MN Twins. But that’s for another time… 🙂

I will say, it was a lot prettier to visit the wineries in the fall during harvest. It was really bare this trip plus the weather was cold and the sky was gray :(. Luckily I’m fully vaccinated and Max has had his first shot so we felt safe enough to visit indoors. We also chose to go Friday during the day and nowhere was really that crowded!

I was picturing beautiful spring weather for this trip. A cute dress, sandals, a jean jacket but that’s Ohio weather for you. Plus the lake effect is no joke! It was warmer when we left Columbus…

I’ve had this jumpsuit for a few years but I thought it was the perfect mix of casual and dressy. Too cold for a dress, tall boots make the outfit look too fall, jeans can feel too casual, buuuut a floral jumpsuit? Pairs well with wine…

My jumpsuit is old BUT I found it at another retailer and on MAJOR SALE! There’s only one left in stock, so GRAB IT if it’s your size! I love the vintage blue and floral print. The v-neck and cinched tie waist gives you a figure in this jumpsuit which is hard to find in this style. I’ve worn it with open toe sandals but these natural tan suede booties coordinate really well with the color of this jumpsuit.

We went to four wineries around the Grand River Valley Region and then decided we should check into our hotel and get settled. We had dinner reservations nearby but the drive to and from the hotel was relatively close and I didn’t mind because I knew I wanted to change outfits (but didn’t admit this to Max).

When we booked our reservation, I urged for a room with a fireplace so we settled on a king bed, fireplace, and partial view of the lake. I’m so glad we got the fireplace with these low temps!

Back at our hotel, I opted for jeans and a silk top. It’s the perfect shade of plum and it’s 40% off! The square neckline is unique and I think anything smocked is so flattering. The sleeves can be worn on or off the shoulder.

We weren’t really comfortable asking someone to take photos of us, so not only did we not get any pictures together, I got the worst pics of this top, hahah! I hope I get another chance this spring to wear and style this again 🙂

We only stayed one night and chose to grab breakfast at Horizons Restaurant there at the hotel. Then we took a walk around the grounds and along the lake. It was so cold and windy so the views would have been more enjoyable if a) I was dressed for it or b) it was warmer lol On our way home through downtown Geneva, we stopped at an adorable coffee shop called Scribblers. We were debating whether or not to stop at another winery that opened at 10AM LOL – we ended up just grabbing coffee and heading home!

Are you seeing a theme here? I packed anything I had that was wine colored, haha! This free people bodysuit looked a little victorian with all of the ruffles, but the lace details and the poppy print make it very feminine.

I always size down in Free People so I’m wearing an XS but it was still a little big in the chest area, FYI. I wish I could have gone without the suede jacket, but it’s Cleveland. Plus my jacker is on sale for 46% off! Random percentage but it brings the jacket to under $100! This is something I bought during last year’s anniversary sale so I didn’t get to wear it too much since I wasn’t leaving the house. It’s surprisingly warm! I’ve posted about these suede booties before. I’ve had them for almost two years now and they really keep their condition and are comfortable – my most worn booties for sure!

So how about that content?! Three outfit styles in post – what am I going to talk about next week? We’ve been doing some home projects so maybe I’ll write a post detailing that… stay tuned! xoxo

Baby’s First Valentine’s Day 💗

I’ve never been big on Valentine’s Day. I love to love but I think that should be celebrated every day, not a planned event. Now I believe it’s so true what they say, “kids make the ‘holidays’ better!”

I’ve only gone out to dinner once on Valentine’s Day and we both regret it. We made reservations for 7pm at the Bonefish Grille. We arrived a few mins early and there was a line out the door. I was catching conversations that people had been waiting an hour. Long story short, we didn’t get seated for an hour and a half, they brought everyone FREE bang bang shrimp, and my husband surprised me with a cute homemade voucher to cash in for a free vacation. So, okay, maybe that wasn’t the worst v-day, but we both agreed, our usual at home date night is the more enjoyable routine.

With the pandemic, our plans for an at home date night didn’t waver. If anything, it motivated us to dress up! We ordered the steak and lobster special from Cooper’s Hawk and picked up a sparkly bottle of Pinot noir rosé wine from our local wine and beer retailer, Grain and Grape.

I decorated our fireplace and mantle with some decor I picked up from Target this year. Olivia had a great time tearing down the foam hearts every chance she got 🙂

My favorite part of the day was a photo shoot with Olivia. She looked adorable in her heart onesie and large pink bow from Stevie J’s. My pink bodysuit is on sale for under $25. It’s a tight fit and a deep neckline but it’s perfect with jeans or a skirt for date night. My Agolde jeans have been my most comfortable pair of denim and my booties tied in the color of Olivia’s dress from H&M.

When I told my husband I needed to order Olivia a gift he said, “we need to get her a gift?” Ugh yes! She’s our valentine! It was just a couple of cute items: a book, a smock bib, and a rubber duckie dressed like Ariel (she loves to play with rubber ducks in the bathtub and if you ask her where her duckie is, she drops what she’s doing and will pick up her duckie).

How do you and your significant other celebrate? Any special traditions? Let me hear ‘em!

My recent Nordstrom Rack purchase under $100!

I love Nordstrom Rack but I rarely have the patience to visit the store and dig through their racks for good deal on a name brand item. I was looking for a Free People sweater on Nordstrom Rack and found it for $26.23 – that’s 75% off the original price, wow! While I was impressed with the sale, I also didn’t want to pay for shipping :). Why does it make me happier to reach the free shipping threshold? Anyone else? Another option was to ship the sweater to the store for free – but that would require a visit in the store and thanks to this pandemic, I haven’t been to a mall (other than a curbside pickup) in almost a year!

So, I kept shopping their clearance category and loaded up my cart! I placed my order before the new year and received my order last week. Shipping took a little more time, but it appears the items are still in stock!

I love this casual outfit. The neutral striped sweater features blouson sleeves, a pocket, and color blocking in the back. It’s a little cropped so I paired it with my favorite high rise Agolde denim and these neutral booties that I wear with anything that isn’t a dress!

I fell in love with this brand, Naked Zebra, when I lived in Minneapolis. I purchased several pieces from a local boutique. This tiered dress is going to be perfect for spring. Unfortunately this color is sold out, but it’s available in two other colors that I’ve linked. I was surprised by the material of this dress – it’s double lined with a silk slip which makes it so comfortable! The length is great and I’d consider making this one of the first pieces I wear back to the office 🙂

This bodysuit is giving me Valentine’s Day vibes! The color and the rouching are so feminine. I have a couple of bodysuits from the same brand, ASTR, so I ordered my normal size, XS, but it runs a little tighter than the other bodysuits. It fits a little snug around the bodice so I’d consider sizing up if you’re larger chested than me.

Saved the best for last! This floral dress is so perfect! Love the pink floral print and think it pairs perfectly with this mauve hat! Another Valentine’s Day contender. This smocked dress can be worn on or off the shoulders – it’s comfortable either way. I almost paired this dress with black boots and a black leather jacket, but any excuse to wear a hat over unwashed hair, count me in!
